The Program:

Come and see how readily-available computer technology can:

·         Eliminate thousands of pages of difficult-to-access documentation.

·         Incorporate text, still picture, sound, and video to effectively present information.

·         Provide a `bank vault' for the safe keeping of a department's most important resource: its experience.

·         Make documentation worthwhile.

The March meeting will demonstrate ODIN and allow you to talk with its creators

The Online Diagnostic Image Network (ODIN) was born as an alternative to three-ring binders stuffed with photocopied pictures, scribbled notes, and out-of-date procedures.  In one year it has become the method of choice for solving problems as a library of diagnostic images and descriptions, their diagnosis and solution procedures. ODIN was the starting point for a department intranet web site; created and maintained entirely at the departmental level by the process technicians, supervisors, engineers and administrative staff who use it.

ODIN was inexpensively created with readily available software and runs on standard personal computers. Originally created with MS Front Page 97 on a Pentium 90/Windows NT Workstation platform with a 2G hard drive and 32M of RAM, it currently runs on a Pentium 2/Windows NT Server and has upgraded from Peer Web Server to Internet Information Server. Index Server and Active server page functionality have been added, contributing greatly to it value.
